Young artists do not have it easy, particularly in times of media turmoil. How can young artists navigate existing power structures in order to grow and create according to their own vision? The exhibition ‘Machtschattengewächse’ explores this question. The young artists explore nuanced and multi-layered approaches to imagery, ranging from insights into the realities of life to constructed perspectives. These are strategies that use photography to reveal complex relationships between power and resistance within reality. The aim is to question the status quo and uncover new ways of thinking, so that we can step out of the shadow of the past. The works on display represent an attempt to create specific worlds within the digital image, at a time when reality feels unreal and like a construct. An analogue counter-movement takes place, whereby photography brings things into focus and opens up spaces of perception for exploration and fulfilment. Creativity serves as a means of escape, as well as a way of creating new hope. It demonstrates how different realities of life can look and how these influence us in the present and in the way we shape our lives. Invisible worlds are made visible, raising questions and prompting reflection.
