The Kunsthaus Wien will reopen on 31.05.2020. It will open with two exhibitions and a permanent exhibition.
On the one hand, works by Alec Soth, one of the most important photographers of our time, will be on display. In 2004, he became suddenly famous with the series Sleeping by the Mississipi: Following in the footsteps of Robert Frank, the artist documented American life on his road trip along the Mississippi – subjectively, with a great deal of poetry and melancholy. Since then, Soth’s photographic oeuvre – he is a member of the renowned Magnum Photos agency – can be found in all renowned exhibition houses and photography institutions. Still on view until 30.08.2020.
Besides Alec Soth, an installation by Claudius Schulze can be viewed. For Kunst Haus Wien Garage, Claudius Schulze is developing a space-specific installation that brings together these two epoch-making developments: The loss of biodiversity on the one hand and the creation of a new species through artificial intelligence, bionics and genetic engineering on the other. Schulze’s works have been exhibited at the Triennale der Photographie Hamburg, at the Münchner Stadtmuseum, at the Fotofestiwal Łódź and at the Noorderlicht Internationaal Fotofestival in Groningen as well as at the Galerie für Fotografie in Hannover.
