Linz International Short Film Festival 2021 / Linz, online

20. – 25.09.2021.

Films that tell stories in a way that can be understood and felt by people all over the world – this is the motto by which the Linz International Short Film Festival selects its films. This year, the festival will be staged as a hybrid event. Once again this year, short films from all over the world will be shown, with a duration of 20 minutes or less. The hybrid form of the festival makes it possible to see the films online as well as in the festival’s cinemas at the Linz University of Art and Design and in the open air. As in the previous year, two lecture halls on the barrier-free first floor will be adapted into movie theaters. The Kunstuni courtyard in the immediate vicinity of the main square will serve as the primary meeting point, where all festival visitors can gather for various program items at the open-air cinema.

Films will be shown that show the diversity of the genre and thus support solidarity in society. Among others, the Sudanese film “Al-Sit” by director Suzannah Mirghani, which tells the story of 15-year-old Nafisa, who is to be married into an arranged marriage.

The festival is also a film competition, an international jury of experts selects the best films in each of the different categories. The participating films are awarded in the categories Best Fiction, Documentary, Animation as well as Best Director, Best Screenplay and Acting, Best Editing, Sound and Best Austrian Film.

Behind the LINZ ISFF are festival founders Parisa Ghasemi and Ashkan Nematian, with the Closefilm association and its members, who make the festival format possible through their volunteer work.
