The production Rigoletto, popular with the audience, will be shown on the big stage by the lake, and for the first time a woman, Julia Jones, will conduct the play by the lake. In the Festspielhaus, a historical material about the Roman emperor Nero is shown, in Arrigo Boito’s composition. The work, which premiered posthumously at La Scala in Milan in 1924, opens the 75th festival season at Lake Constance on July 21. The Bregenz Festival will present a diverse program, featuring the new alongside the tried-and-true from the world of classical music, in a wide-ranging arc.
The workshop stage of the opera house once again becomes a venue for contemporary music theater with two world premieres. The Kornmarkttheater is not only the home of the Opera Studio for the sixth time, but also attracts a drama premiere from the Deutsches Theater Berlin. With Lohn der Nacht, another world premiere can be experienced in the Schauspiel in co-production with Theater KOSMOS. Four special orchestra concerts also invite with programs for the anniversary season in the Great Hall of the Festspielhaus, three literary-musical gems are again served by the festival in the Seestudio at Musik & Poesie and on one evening there is a reunion with Nikolaus Habjan and the Musicbanda Franui, well known in Vorarlberg and originating from Tyrol.
