New folk music is the focus here: at the Alpentöne Festival in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. New music in this context means that music which upholds tradition and at the same time develops it into something new with respect, courage and a will to create. Austria has been represented at every edition so far and will be even more present than usual this year as a guest country.

From the Viennese Dudler or the Bregenz song tradition to Styrian or Carinthian folk music with corresponding instruments to Schrammel music or a certain Franz Schubert – folk music tradition, the music of the people always vibrates in the echo chamber of this country. At Alpentöne 2021, one may be particularly curious about the younger generation, which in its baggage combines the old with the new, the traditional with the personal, and shows exciting new interpretations. The University Mozarteum Salzburg sends its best folk music students to Altdorf, where they bring their own works and co-creations to the stage with the Alpinis, the folk music ensemble of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Among others, Karl Markovics and the OÖ Concert Schrammeln can be experienced with the program “Der verlogene Heurige und andere Kalamitäten”. Or the Bandella Vista Mare with contemporary Ticino folk and “Blick aufs Meer”. The entire program is available online. The Alpentöne Festival is realized in cooperation with the Kulturforum Bern.
