When the computer found its way into art!
On the occasion of his 95th birthday, the Upper Austrian Center for Photography and Media Art, the Francisco Carolinum, dedicates an exhibition to the pioneer in the field of merging art and media – Herbert W. Franke!
As co-founder of Ars Electronica, Franke was already considered a pioneer in different worlds. Even a scientist, his path led him to computer art. He was active as a leader and thought leader until the 2000s with projects such as the “Z-Galxy,” a 3D world that provides virtual space for changing exhibitions, and the Internet platform Active Worlds.
