5020 Festival Salzburg

01.07. – 31.07. 2022

Make way for the young generation! The newly founded “5020 Festival” in Salzburg gives the young cultural scene in the city a stage in the summer.

The young music and culture scene in Salzburg has not been able to make itself heard in the summer so far. The new young “5020 Festival” now wants to change that.

Supported by a number of organizers of the “Salzburg Club Commission” and driven by a team led by Markus Rauchmann, who was also the motor behind the “Take the A Train” festival, which was successfully launched a few years ago in Salzburg’s Bahnhofsviertel, the “5020 Festival” this summer with 50 events takes place at 20 locations throughout the city. With easily accessible and inexpensive concerts and events for a young audience. Many events are offered according to the motto “pay-as-you-want” in order to enable as many interested parties as possible to attend.

In addition to an extensive concert program with numerous bands and DJs such as the electro-pop duo Mynth, Paul Panther, the house duo “Klangkarussell” with Tobias Rieser and Adrian Held or the absurdly funny Tyrolean tuba virtuoso Tobias Ennemoser, aka TubAffinity, there are also discussion events, e.g. about blockchain in art and business on the program. A poetry slam championship held between representatives from Salzburg and Upper Austria is also on the program.

A cargo bike that has been converted into a sound bike is available for mobile concerts and events and can be used in a wide variety of public spaces. Used among others for instance by the SEAD Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance.

The festival organizers are implementating of the festival-program in close cooperation with Salzburgs independent scene. From Stadtwerk Lehen to the cultural association MARK Salzburg, which presents Salzburg’s first queer short film festival as part of the festival.

Gerd Pardeller, managing and artistic director of MARK Salzburg, is completely convinced of the new festival project. “It is important that the young cultural scene is visible in the public space in Salzburg and that it has a place in summer. This also creates a different awareness in the city, which is dominated by the high culture offerings of the Salzburg Festival in summertime.”

In any case, Pardeller hopes that this festival will continue after the start this year in the coming years and gain a permanent place in Salzburg’s cultural program.

Otherwise, TubAffinity will possibly haul city politicians over the coals.
