The exhibition brings together various projects from Mathias Kessler’s media art oeuvre. In the Staging Nature cycle of works, he creates images of natural places, such as Arctic icebergs or caves and mountains in South America, which were created on expeditions with scientists researching the local ecosystems. Many of his projects are based on photography, which he expands or transfers into new contexts using other artistic media.
The overarching theme of all his projects is the complex relationship between man and nature, which he has been critically reflecting on in his work for over 20 years. Especially in his home region of Vorarlberg, the problem of the commercialization and appropriation of nature is highly topical.
