Events in Andreas Herok’s childhood, such as a summer holiday in the mountain landscape around Rauris and a long stay in the Alps due to illness, with the mountain ridges opposite always before his eyes at dusk, were formative for his landscape paintings. While his first landscape paintings were characterized by memory, today the artist uses historical postcards and photographs in an innovative way. Herok is not interested in classic realist depiction, but in an often fleeting interpretation of the memory of what he has seen.
Using various artistic techniques, including ink and oil on Dibond as well as ink, oil and transfer printing on Dibond, Andreas Herok attempts to bring the landscape motifs out of the past without falling into nostalgia and to open up a new, different perspective.
