Ferdinand Aichhorn, architect and spatial planner, spent a few weeks every winter in Southeast Asian countries – for more than 50 years.
Equipped with a rucksack and interested in the country and its people, he first came into contact with textiles in the 1980s, specifically with the ikat, an elaborate reservation technique that sparked his interest in textiles. Ikats have since become a central part of the collection. Over the course of time, his knowledge of and interest in different techniques and materials has grown so that the Aichhorn collection now comprises around 3000 textiles. A selection of these treasures is on display in the exhibition.
