For over 30 years now, Julius Deutschbauer has been developing a complex artistic oeuvre that is highly visible and always up-to-date in the form of classic A1 posters. The 213 posters created on his own initiative and presented in their entirety in this exhibition show the artist as a permanent observer of social developments. He takes a satirical look at questions of politics, language and the media.
As with many performance artists, photography is a decisive medium in the realisation of his works. Deutschbauer on the poster, always looking serious, with texts and commentaries on the political situation, but also on exhibitions, performances and festivals, becomes an iconic art figure, reproduced many thousands of times and displayed in public and private spaces. His self-dramatisation sometimes reaches the point of embarrassment and always leaves the viewer open to opposing interpretations.
