No one is an island – but most people want to be able and allowed to live undisturbed. Nobody likes disruptions; whether it’s disruptions on the road, non-conformist young people, fiery preachers, lateral thinkers, “climate stickers” or government deniers – they should disappear, and quickly. And yet, disruptive moments are not only part of life, but have often helped society to progress productively. Wasn’t Martin Luther King a troublemaker in the eyes of many? Don’t universities preach: “Think out of the box”? Galileo Galilei may have been rehabilitated today, but in his time he was considered a dangerous rebel. So who are the mavericks, troublemakers, outsiders and eccentrics of our time? Socrates once compared philosophy to an annoying mosquito: A troublemaker that brings us a little closer to the truth. Can philosophy still fulfil this task, or is it mutating into a feel-good wisdom that wants to please everyone? So when is the sand in the gears productive, and when is it dangerously corrosive? And who decides which disturbances are justified? At the 27th Philosophicum Lech, speakers from philosophy, social and cultural sciences and neighbouring disciplines will talk about these and similar questions and discuss them with the audience.
