The exhibition offers an overview from Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke, who stand for the socially critical art of the 1960s, through the 1980s, characterised by Albert Oehlen and Katharina Sieverding, to the field of abstract art of the present, which is represented by works by Corinne Wasmuht and Katharina Grosse; It also combines opposites such as Jörg Immendorff’s expansive large formats with the conceptual works of Joseph Beuys or the works of Anne Imhof, Katharina Fritsch or Nairy Baghramian, which in turn strike a completely different tone. The individual style has long since superseded the principle of a school of national art.
