Under the title ‘Beautiful world, where are you?’, the gallery of the La Filature theatre in Mulhouse is dedicating the largest monographic exhibition in France to date to the Graz photographer Manfred Willmann. The exhibition includes twelve of the artist’s most important series of works – including ‘Black and Gold’, ‘The World is Beautiful’ and ‘The Countryside’, in which Manfred Willmann has been capturing scenes of rural life in southern Styria for over forty years. Some of his first conceptual works, which outline his exploration of the medium of photography, are also included. The photographic works of the founder and long-time editor of Camera Austria deal with the complexity of today’s world and visual culture in the age of globalisation. His photographs not only show raw details of everyday life, but also the world in all its facets of beauty, ugliness and transience.
