Every two years, SCHÄXPIR transforms Linz (and Upper Austria) into a multidimensional theatre universe and creates something unprecedented in the process: it opens up opportunities to see formats that would otherwise not appear on the repertoires of local theatres. SCHÄXPIR is a place where you can try things out, experiment and develop. Because it confronts children and young people with different themes and stories that affect them, theatre for young audiences is absolutely essential.
Under the motto ‘What remains’, the 2025 theatre festival is dedicated to the questions of where we come from and where we are going. The great global stories – creation stories, myths, fairy tales, birth and death – are told across cultures, multidimensionally and diversely.
Julia Ransmayr and Sara Ostertag are once again responsible for the programme; Anja Lang is in charge of organisation.
This year, the festival will take place over eleven days for the first time. This means that schools have enough time to attend the performances and, thanks to the Whitsun holidays, families can also enjoy the SCHÄXPIR hustle and bustle in Linz. SCHÄXPIR opens with the world premiere of ‘Deadly Poodles’ in the Ursulinenhof, Linz.
