The Vienna-based, Styrian-born artist Evelyn Plaschg combines sophisticated techniques and her own visual language to create a painterly approach that is far removed from the usual figurative solutions. She uses the medium of painting skilfully and in tune with the times to find coherent forms, expressions and perspectives that play out within familiar fields of tension, such as figurative and abstract, but also capture intimate spheres permeated by the digital. This has a lot to do with the attitude to life of her generation, which has practised and internalised the exhibition, staging and optimisation of bodies like no other before it. The works tell of their own physical desire in interaction with their counterparts, the collective experience in (real and imagined) communal spaces and social structures in which they come together. The exhibition Viscous City at the HALLE FÜR KUNST, curated by Jan Tappe, is Evelyn Plaschg’s first institutional solo presentation in Austria, which not only includes new paintings in oil, but also transforms them into a kind of overall installation that follows the emerging path of her work and deals with it productively.
