Hideki Yukawa, Japan’s first Nobel Prize winner, is the inspiration behind the works on display in the exhibition. The title of the exhibition comes from his book of the same name. Yukawa wrote: Poetry and science seem far apart, yet they are close; very close, yet far apart. Well, they are actually very close to each other. Why? Because both begin by observing and listening to nature. There is no great difference between smelling a rose and admiring its beauty and examining the shape of the flower. This short paragraph, according to Fuko Katsuda, “opened my mind to the idea that it makes no sense to draw a line between things that seem incompatible, and I also thought that perhaps magic only arises when they meet: humans and nature, men and women, children and adults, subculture and science. The aim of this exhibition is to create a world where all boundaries blur and visitors can see what is there.”
