FOTO WIEN 2025 highlights future scenarios as reflected in photography; how is our perception of the future changing in the age of artificial intelligence, virtual realities and algorithmically generated images? And how is photography responding to these developments – formally, in terms of content, politically? With works by 333 artists at 99 participating locations, Austria’s largest photography festival, now in its 11th edition, explores the interplay between image, science, technology and society. Under the motto ‘dynamic futures’, FOTO WIEN 2025 is dedicated to current and speculative questions about the future – focusing on photography as an artistic, documentary and research medium. With FOTO ARSENAL WIEN as the festival centre, FOTO WIEN extends across the entire city: museums, exhibition halls, galleries, libraries, universities, off-spaces and studios make photography visible and accessible – low-threshold, discursive and open to all.
