Seeds form the foundation of our lives. They provide us with food and raw materials, embody biodiversity, preserve and pass on regional knowledge and cultural heritage, and symbolise hope, change and renewal. The exhibition is part of the Vienna Climate Biennale and explores the multifaceted meanings of seeds and seed stock as a reflection of our relationship with the Earth and with one another. The exhibition Seeds. Reclaiming Roots, Sowing Futures builds bridges between art, ecology and activism. For the fourteen international artists featured in the exhibition curated by Sophie Haslinger, the seed is the starting point for their investigations from ecological, cultural-historical and symbolic perspectives. Emerging from diverse geographical and cultural contexts, the works on display address migration and colonialism, indigenous knowledge and biodiversity, agribusiness and food sovereignty, as well as resistance, self-empowerment, practices of solidarity and regenerative futures.
