Bernhard Kathan, a native of Vorarlberg, has been invited to hold a solo exhibition at the Künstlerhaus Bregenz, where he presents his retrospective “COINCIDENCES. INSPIRATIONS. PROVISIONS”. The exhibition documents 57 projects, most of which were created in collaboration with other artists – such as Martin Breindl, Günter Gstrein, Jeannot Schwartz, Saba Skabernè, Andrea Sodomka and Günther Zechberger. Instead of paintings, photographs or installations in the conventional sense, the exhibition features artefacts from projects realised through artistic means, without always being immediately recognisable as art. Presented without clear authorship or explanations, they are intended to unsettle perceptions and challenge interpretations. Within the exhibition context, supplementary information is now provided to make the works accessible. Kathan’s approach combines art and science, is process-oriented and invites reflection on the role of art in a changing world.
