Hiking is one of Johan Jansen’s great passions; and it is precisely this passion that has given the exhibition its name. The slow pace of walking inspired him to see nature in a different light. Now Johan is confined to a wheelchair. His paintbrushes have balls attached so that he can hold them. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a severe, progressive disease. It causes paralysis and robs the sufferer of speech. Yet the artist does what he must: he paints. And in doing so, he is breaking new ground. The members of KunstVorarlberg are organising this exhibition for Johan to showcase his courageous journey, but also to enable him to sell his paintings. With the proceeds from his works, he hopes to purchase an eye-controlled speech computer so that he can continue to communicate.
