Screens, signals and other bodies: in Hac Vincent’s three-channel video installation *Hard Persistence*, the body does not end at the skin. Essentially, the exhibition curated by Mirela Baciak emphasises the persistence of the flesh: its vulnerability, its desire, its instability and its resistance to being fully translated into information. The body may circulate as an image, data or signal, but something always eludes complete capture. The ‘hard’ persistence referred to in the title describes the ongoing engagement with systems that classify, measure and reformulate the body. Persistence is not the preservation of an intact self. Rather, it is the ability to reappear time and again in different contexts without being reducible to any one of them. The human being that emerges here is therefore a contradictory and relational construct: technologically mediated, materially vulnerable and always more complex than the systems that attempt to define its boundaries.
