This year’s international festival for tolerance is themed ‘What can I trust?’. Lectures, discussions, readings, concerts and film screenings invite visitors to experience, together, the idea of tolerance in practice and democratic culture. Once again, barns, farmhouse parlours, churches and historic sites across the region will become special venues for encounter and exchange. Through a variety of event formats, the Dachstein Dialogues will use discourse and cultural experiences to explore the many aspects of trust in the context of tolerance. The Austrian philosopher, author and lecturer Lisz Hirn opens the Dachstein Dialogues with a plea for sound judgement in uncertain times. Can trust still have a stable foundation today – or must we rather learn to live with justified mistrust without becoming cynical?
Once again this year, the Dachstein Dialogues are hosting the informal and spontaneous ‘Open Concerts’ series: musicians and ensembles – both local artists and international performers taking part in the festival – are invited to give a short performance and make music together. Classical, jazz, folk or improvisation — all genres of music are equally welcome, as are encounters between musicians from different traditions and styles. The initiative launched last year by the Dachstein Dialogues, bringing together pupils and teachers from both festival communities, is continuing: this year, the next generation will once again meet in Filzmoos for a workshop on the festival theme ‘What can I trust?’. During the workshop, children from primary school classes in Filzmoos and Ramsau am Dachstein will have the chance to discover, through play, the role that trust plays in their lives.
