In *Stellar Atmospheres*, Miriam Hamann follows in the footsteps of the female astrophysicists who mapped and classified the night sky around 1900. Their work laid the foundations for our understanding of the universe – yet remained unrecognised for a long time. Drawing on hundreds of thousands of astronomical photographs, the so-called Harvard Computers developed systems that made the sky legible as an ordered field. In *Stellar Atmospheres*, Hamann translates these systematisations into artistic material and renders them in a sculptural style – navigating the space between light and system, observation and abstraction, the individual object and a comparative cosmic order.
