As part of the Austrian cultural festival ‘Favorite Fall’, the group exhibition ‘4600 Nocturnes’ presents contemporary Ukrainian black-and-white photography. The exhibition opens on the 4,600th day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The title 4,600 Nocturnes refers to the nocturne as an artistic form associated with the night – a space of silence, memory and reflection. The night thus becomes a metaphor for a long period of uncertainty, resistance and hope. On display are more than 50 photographs by 35 Ukrainian photographers from various regions of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. Their works explore everyday life, memory, identity, loss and resilience, and demonstrate how photography can preserve personal experiences and bear witness to history.
