A special relationship with death links the ancient cultures of Mexico with the Viennese art scene. With Zero Kama, the Austrian artist Zoe Dewitt brings an extraordinary interplay of music, spirituality and transience to Mexico. The project rose to prominence in the 1980s with the album ‘The Secret Eye of L.A.Y.L.A.H’, recorded using instruments made from human skulls and bones. Zero Kama will perform in Puebla on 6 November and in Mexico City on 8 November. To accompany the performances, Zoe Dewitt will exhibit photographs from the series “Memorias del Mictlán” at the Foro Cultural Tlillancalli, as well as historical images of her collaboration with Hermann Nitsch. The photographs, taken by Heinz Cibulka in 1984, offer an insight into radical Viennese action art.
