From fairs to film sets: Photographer Lillian Birnbaum shows the similarities between the two locations.
Lillian Birnbaum is a photographer and film producer. In her works she repeatedly addresses the link between photography and film.
The exhibition “SHIFTING REALITIES” at the Fortress Hohensalzburg shows temporary rooms, photographs of fairgrounds from the 1980s, combined with shots taken over the last ten years on the film sets of international films. Lillian Birnbaum makes the similarity of dynamics and aesthetics the focus of her works: There is something flowing and provisional about both. Both fairs and film sets are transformed into a poetic, separate reality thanks to the narrative properties of their objects, the lights and atmospheres.
Lillian Birnbaum was born in New York and grew up in Vienna. Today she lives between Vienna and Paris.
