Gottfried Salzmann, established in the art scene as an internationally recognized watercolorist, has mastered watercolor painting like no other.

In his works, the artist uses different techniques such as watercolor, charcoal and collage, revealing the poetry of cities and landscapes, painting and transforming them.

Salzmann has been living and working in Paris since 1965. The city of New York fascinated the artist for almost four decades and left profound traces in his work. Through new views, perspectives and influences of informal art, he succeeds in playing between representationalism and abstraction. In addition to Salzmann’s early landscapes and cityscapes, the exhibition also shows the artist’s latest works, “Flug- und Schattenbilder”.

On the occasion of Gottfried Salzmann’s 80th birthday, the Welz Gallery is dedicating its festival exhibition to the artist. A photo exhibition of the artist is presented in Wiespach Castle in Hallein. Other exhibitions in the Museum Schloss Ritzen in Saalfelden, in the Salzburg Museum and in Schloss Arenberg in Salzburg honor the artist’s work. A two-volume anniversary edition will be published for the exhibitions, consisting of a painting and a photo volume. The volume of paintings “Just Believe in Art” provides an overview of the artist’s entire previous work from almost six decades, the photo volume “Le Regard” for the first time an overview of Gottfried Salzmann’s photographic work.
