27.11.2024 – 08.12.2024
Year after year, the festival stands for critical dialogue, offers space for creative debate on relevant topics and has become an integral part of Vienna’s cultural landscape. The this human world 2024 festival will once again present a wide variety of focal points that address global and socio-political issues. These thematic blocks are carefully curated and are intended to encourage the audience to reflect and promote discussion. They not only deal with global crises, but also shed light on personal struggles and micro-movements that are often overshadowed by major political events. Over thirteen festival days, around 80 films dealing with human rights, conflicts and global coexistence will be shown in three Viennese art house cinemas. Avia Seeliger and Xandi Egginton have been running the festival since 2024, bringing new visions and a breath of fresh air to the programme selection and placing particular emphasis on the importance of individual struggles and micro-movements in the field of human rights. Films should not only inform, but also promote compassion and, at best, inspire active action. The festival will open with the film Cyborg Generation (D: Miguel Morillo Vega | ES 2024). It takes the audience into the world of young musician Kai Landre in search of his identity. The experimental documentary follows the protagonist as he develops a ground-breaking cybernetic organ and wants to implant it into his body.
