A festival for contemporary music as a sounding mirror of the present, of living culture, of society, of the people of a city? Under the motto Stadtklänge, Festival 4020 dares to explore this idea with the greatest possible openness – across genre boundaries, communicative and surprising – a festival as the sound of the city. Festival 4020 explores the acoustic identity of the city and presents contemporary music at the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Posthof Linz, the Volkshaus Dornach and the VS 3 Auwiesen. Linz thrives on its contrasts – on urban dynamism, architectural diversity and cultural vibrancy. It is precisely these facets that the festival traces musically: sometimes abstract, architectural, sometimes direct, with its finger on the pulse of time. Sometimes rousingly danceable, sometimes filigree and virtuoso. Sometimes grand and existential, sometimes light, playful and humorous. For four days, Linz is transformed into a vibrant soundscape in which contemporary music, dance, interactive installations and innovative concert formats combine to create a unique festival experience. International and Austrian artists take the audience on an acoustic journey through urban soundscapes.
