The Best Austrian Animation Festival is a fixture on the domestic cultural scene and offers an annual overview of Austrian productions in the field of animation. The festival aims to present animation in its entirety: ranging from art to commerce, from experimentation to narration, from abstraction to representationalism, and all this in every conceivable and newly developed analogue, digital and hybrid technique.
The mood of the times, with its numerous crises and threats, is reflected in a good portion of the films, and repeatedly in the impressive works of students, both in terms of quality and quantity, thanks to numerous domestic training institutions. In the field of independent animated film, there is a tendency towards longer works, but also a shift towards very personal themes, framed by other works that address the state of the world and social criticism. In addition to humour and narration, the programme also includes numerous experimental works that refer to a wide variety of approaches in the visual arts. The programme of music videos, on the other hand, ranges from low-budget to professional productions.
