He was controversial, blurring the boundaries between art, theatre, film and politics: Christoph Schlingensief (1960–2010). His productions challenged the audience to take an active stance – oscillating between irritation and realisation, feeling overwhelmed and reflection. With the exhibition *It’s Not My Problem Any more!*, a quote by Schlingensief from 2005, the MAK, in collaboration with the Vienna Festival, is presenting the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist’s work in Austria – the very country he brought to the heart of its social contradictions in 2000 through his action Please Love Austria – First Austrian Coalition Week as part of the Vienna Festival. The exhibition is not intended as a traditional retrospective, but rather brings key bodies of Schlingensief’s work into dialogue with one another. It demonstrates how his artistic strategies—spanning theatre, film, installation and performance—interpenetrate and form a multi-layered picture of his thinking. The focus is not on the finished work, but on the process of questioning, doubting and failing that characterises Schlingensief’s practice.
