Self-confidence, self-assertion and assertiveness are the defining themes of the exhibition. The artists at AG18 Gallery present their perspectives on these themes, each with their own unique approach and style, and through their own life stories, which illustrate how one can assert oneself with self-confidence. Particularly in turbulent times ‘Self-Assertiveness’ showcases artists from Africa who have achieved international success and assert themselves confidently in a volatile art market which, in recent years, has dealt harsh blows to emerging artists in particular and scared off collectors. On display at the AG18 Gallery – unlike anywhere else in Austria – are powerful works by: Boris Anje Anjel, Gerald Cukwuma, Hako Hankson, Oluwole Omofemi, Damilola Opedun, Zandile Tschabalala. Also on display are bold, up-and-coming young artists – from Africa and – such as Daniela Frimpong, Famakan Magassa and Thomas Vava – from Austria’s ‘Black Community’.
