In his paintings, the artist explores the intersections of our perception, examining the interaction between image and reality in the context of digital media. The exhibition presents depictions of nature, such as landscapes, still lifes of plants and floral paintings. All the paintings are based on digital images of the sort that circulate endlessly on the internet and social media platforms, without the artist ever having seen the subjects in real life with his own eyes. Other subjects, such as the floral paintings in the exhibition, were 3D-scanned by Huemer and digitally processed. Curated by Peter Peer, the exhibition comprises around 80 paintings from the past 25 years, bringing together the key bodies of work in Markus Huemer’s depictions of nature. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue in which this aspect of the artist’s oeuvre is to be presented in detail for the first time in its entirety.
