Photo I Brut . Feeling Photography presents passionate explorations of artistic processes by self-taught artists who, moving beyond a normative understanding of art, create independent photographic art and visual worlds. People with mental or physical illnesses, social outsiders or hidden creators open up new artistic questions and creative paths. This sometimes results in works of great aesthetic relevance, created over decades, which are not guided by an academic canon, social norms or the rules of the art market, but are dedicated to the processing of emotions. FOTO ARSENAL WIEN offers, for the first time in Austria, an insight into over 40 artistic processes from more than 10 nations – based on one of the largest collections of Photo Brut, which the French filmmaker Bruno Decharme has been compiling for over 40 years.
