The exhibition *The Blooming Language of Money* offers an overview of coins and banknotes featuring floral and plant motifs, from ancient Greece to the euro, and deciphers the messages contained within these depictions. The exhibition focuses on coins and medals in which lilies, roses, alpine flowers, palm trees and laurel wreaths are key design elements. The coins on display featuring floral motifs originate not only from Europe, but also from the Americas, Asia and Oceania. The exhibition offers a broad perspective on the fascinating diversity of the world of money. Furthermore, the exhibition features a section in which the coins and banknotes are grouped thematically – ranging from the construction of national identities through uniqueness to independence. In the exhibition, curated by Karl Peitler and Marc Philipp Wahl, the coins and banknotes enter into dialogue with artworks and interventions by the artist Ryts Monet, who repeatedly engages with the iconography of money in his work and examines the flower on banknotes and coins and its mutable appropriation and identification.
