The exhibition *Dancing Together – Between Gesture and Projection* presents works by the Vienna-based artists Donya Aalipour and Käthe Schönle, exploring the scope for action available to individuals and society at the intersection of the present and the future. The artist Donya Aalipour, who was born and raised in Iran, presents paintings as well as a video installation for the first time. The starting point is documentary footage from Iran showing people dancing at funerals – gestures that take shape within a repressive system whilst simultaneously eluding its control.
In her exploration of human existence and potential spheres of action, Käthe Schönle presents a perspective oriented towards the future. In dialogue, both positions open up a field of tension between immediate gesture and speculative design. The exhibition understands movement both as a physical act and as a figure of thought: as something that arises under restrictive conditions and is simultaneously directed towards the possible.
