With infectious enthusiasm, Sielke Scheidt, a native of Hamburg, succeeded in establishing her ‘Institute for Education through Dance and Music’, the ‘Salzburg Play Dance School’, which she founded in Salzburg in 1955, in a very short space of time. With her innovative approach to teaching dance, she won the hearts and minds of countless ballet enthusiasts. Together with her daughter Lacerta, she developed the Spieltanzschule into a unique Salzburg institution for young and old alike. For generations, her school became the epitome of health, physical control and the joy of dance. The exhibition spans a colourful spectrum from the history of the Salzburg Play Dance School, through the lives of the two directors, to their artistic work – largely unknown to the public: Sielke Scheidt’s paintings and her daughter Lacerta’s poetry.
