In 2026, the Museum of Contemporary Art Admont will dedicate a comprehensive exhibition to the artistic oeuvre of the Styrian painter and thinker Hannes Schwarz (1926–2014).
“Verletzt” (Injured) offers a comprehensive insight into the multi-layered work of Hannes Schwarz, which is characterised by existential questions and stylistic change. Following early abstract works from the 1950s and experimental printmaking techniques from 1959 onwards, the vulnerable, deformed human figure came into focus from the mid-1960s. From around 1975, the ‘Verletzt’ series marked a turning point towards reduced, landscape-like pictorial spaces in which the vulnerability of the human condition is explored.
