Rebhandl’s central theme is painting. He works with and on colours and non-colours, reflecting on their symbolism and shifting meanings; he plays with the painting surface, creates contrasts and incorporates words and texts. The results of his process-oriented approach are unconventional, full of irony and, precisely because of their connection to the history and present of art and society, refreshingly new and topical. With the exhibition *A Laboratory of Painting*, Reinhold Rebhandl is breaking new ground – the show is constantly being altered and developed further. Rebhandl works on site, effectively transforming the Schlossgalerie Steyr into his temporary studio. Large paintings hang or lean against the walls; together with the smaller works mounted on large panels, they give structure to the walls and frame the spatial installation *Atelier*.
