In classrooms, pupils from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and family circumstances come together. In debates on education policy and in the media, however, diversity is seen less as an opportunity for the future and more as a challenge for education policy or a problem of integration. Due to this new demographic situation, the often Eurocentric historical narratives in the curricula and school textbooks are encountered by young people who do not automatically perceive these narratives as their own history or stories. The travelling exhibition *Our Stories. Young People in Graz Explore Their Family Histories* explores the question of what family narratives and life experiences can actually be found in six schools in Graz, and what this means for schools as well as for the teaching of history. The focus is on the diverse family histories of the pupils, which they have explored in video interviews with their parents and grandparents. The aim of the travelling exhibition is to highlight the diversity of these narratives and to harness them to foster peaceful and respectful coexistence.
