The Weltmuseum Wien is presenting *Rain of Blood. Photography and the Arms Trade*, an exhibition exploring the arms trade around 1900. The exhibition uses the arms trade of this era as a lens through which to portray war and armed conflicts in all their profoundly ambivalent nature within the museum’s collection. Historical photographs and films, as well as historical objects, contrasted with contemporary artworks, reveal the tension between arms production, the need for protection and life in the wake of destruction. The exhibition does not focus on the history of technology or a fetishistic fascination with military equipment. Instead, across three themed rooms, it confronts the audience with the raw, social reality of violence.
