The Salzburg Kunstverein’s annual members’ exhibition HER 2026 examines the role of technology in shaping and defining our sense of self and our relationships with others. In doing so, it paints a picture of the human being as an imperfect, imaginary, sensually oriented and embodied being, who at the same time acts as both an agent and an accomplice of power and its structures. The HER exhibition is dedicated to a fascination with the human condition – with touching, feeling, embodying, procrastinating, camping, writing poetry, hesitating, losing, despairing – and thus stands in opposition to algorithmically controlled structures and machine-mediated communication. At the same time, it observes how these technologies have made information accessible and reveals how family ties, ownership structures, and state and institutional procedures determine the conditions for visibility, opportunities and access.
