The exhibition focuses on the process of creation itself: on the interplay between materials, knowledge, technique and artistic decision-making. MANUFACTURED – curated by Genoveva Rückert – showcases works by five international artists created during their residency at the Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur. Jacob Bartmann (DE/AT), Onka Allmayer-Beck (AT), Chiau-Syuan Chai (TW/DE) and Nataliya Zuban (UA/NL) engage their artistic practice in dialogue with the craft-based expertise and local production conditions. Thomas Marseiler (IT/AT) worked at the partner institution, the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan. The Gmundner Keramik Manufaktur opens its workshops to the guest artists and provides infrastructure and expert guidance. Material becomes form, process becomes expression: trial and error, experimentation and reorientation characterise the artists’ engagement with the possibilities and conditions of ceramic production.
