In November, the ‘DNIPRO’ Festival of Ukrainian Art will bring the diversity of Ukrainian culture to Graz. This new cultural initiative showcases Ukrainian literature as well as classical and traditional music, and creates a space for encounters and cultural dialogue across borders. The festival kicks off on 2 November with a book presentation featuring a performative reading: ‘Words in War’ by the Ukrainian author Ostap Slyvynsky. Together with actress Ninja Reichert, translator Maria Weissenböck, musician Nick Acorne and literary scholar Mariya Donska, the evening will explore the human experience of war. On 6 November, the concert ‘Ukrainian Sounds: Baroque’ at the Meerscheinschlössl invites audiences on a musical journey back to the Baroque era. The series concludes on 13 November with the interactive vocal journey “Origins”, featuring the Graz-based ensemble FAJNA Folklore Labor, which introduces the audience to Ukrainian songs and musical traditions. DNIPRO invites you to discover Ukrainian culture in all its diversity and to experience the unifying power of art.
