Science meets fiction festival ’23: Zeit.Reisen / Salzburg

The Science meets Fiction Festival sees its task as bringing together concepts of the future and scientific findings. This year’s motto is “Time.travelling”: Science fiction breaks the boundaries of space and time that realistic narratives are subject to. It is precisely through this expansion of the narrative space of possibilities, through the difference to the present, that science fiction can raise questions that are important for us here and now. Time.travelling is the common theme of all contributions to Science meets Fiction 2023.
The festival explores this question in cinema films, exhibitions and lectures. For a fortnight, the festival will explore the interplay between technological developments and social transformation processes and how they are processed in artistic contributions. On closer inspection, where does the present surpass past visions of the future? What are probable developments from today’s perspective, what would be desirable? What will remain fiction for the foreseeable future?
