Historic buildings often date back centuries in their construction history, need to be cared for and maintained, and are therefore still standing. Due to this long lifespan, they are not only a testimony to past art and culture, but also prime examples of sustainability. For this to succeed, the principles of monument preservation must be adhered to in order to ensure the preservation of these buildings for the future and future generations.
The examples presented in this exhibition each represent a specific building task or building type, with one example from Lower Austria and one from Hungary being presented. In the context of successful heritage conservation, both the historic building with all its features and the requirements for contemporary utilisation must be taken into account.
These requirements were met by the buildings represented in this exhibition, which was curated by Zsuzsanna Galamb (Hungarian Museum of Architecture – Research Centre and Archive for Monument Preservation) and Nina Kallina (Department of Art and Culture of the Province of Lower Austria), so that they can serve as examples of best practice.
