To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann, the Austrian Embassy in Oslo, the Goethe-Institut Norway and Cinemateket Oslo are organising the Bachmann Days 2026. The event will kick off on 7 May 2026 with a literary salon at the Austrian Embassy in Oslo. Literary scholars Elin Nesje Vestli and Suzanne Bordemann will speak on the life, work and contemporary relevance of one of the most significant voices in German-language literature, under the title ‘The Magic of Language and Vulnerability – The Myth of Ingeborg Bachmann’. The focus will be on Bachmann’s linguistic radicalism, her political sensitivity, and questions of violence, power, identity and responsibility – themes that continue to resonate today. To accompany the event, Cinemateket Oslo will screen the films Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey into the Desert (12 May 2026) and The Dreamed (19 May 2026).
