Bezau Beatz is once again transforming the Bregenzerwald into a space for musical improvisation.
This year, too, long-standing collaborators and pioneers are coming together here to explore the unpredictable, far removed from the conventions of established concert halls. In this way, the market town is once again becoming the epicentre of creative, improvised music and an intimate space for artistic autonomy.
The carefully crafted programme is evident even in the choice of venues, each of which possesses its own historical identity. The whole of Bezau thus becomes a decentralised stage, where venues and programme are curated in equal measure. Whether in the sturdy carriage house of the Wälderbähnle, the artisanal setting of the Figer blacksmith’s workshop, the intimate acoustics of the church in Reuthe, or on the exposed summit plateau of the Baumgarten panoramic restaurant, each venue tells its own story. Even the journeys between concerts become part of the overall experience.
Bezau Beatz sees itself as a celebration of the fleeting moment. The musical spectrum ranges from focused solo miniatures and free sonic explorations to complex, layered ensemble formations.
Guitarist Teis Semey, for example, bridges the gap to popular music by bringing together elements ofa free jazz, indie pop and post-rock with his quintet. WOBBLE8, on the other hand, layers analogue and digital sound elements to create a high-energy, wide-screen sound. Camila Nebbia’s project ‘The Hanged One’ and Edward Perraud’s ‘Sauvages Paradis’ evoke more associative soundscapes, whilst the ensemble Kalle Kalima DETOURS, featuring Leo Genovese and Christian Lillinger, expands the spectrum to include further rich facets. Vera Morais brings this top-class programme to a poetic close with EUPNEA at the Remise.
The live performances are complemented by interdisciplinary workshops, and Luisa Muhr’s singing class, along with the dance and improvisation project “HEAR AND NOW” by Evi Filippou and Naïma Mazic, open up their own little universes that flow directly into the proceedings.
