11.08.2026 – 15.08.2026
For five days, Bludenz will once again be all about cinematic diversity under the open sky: in its latest edition, the short film festival is once again presenting a varied programme of international productions, regional works and innovative film formats – and is once again turning Bludenz into a venue for special cinematic experiences. What has characterised the ALPINALE for decades is its unique ability to bring people together through the moving image. More than 1,300 productions from 94 countries were submitted. From this impressive variety emerges a programme that showcases the most diverse facets of short film – from international short fiction films, through animations and VR works, to children’s and horror films, as well as regional productions with a connection to Vorarlberg.
The international competition forms the centrepiece of the ALPINALE. Every day from 8.30 pm, the programme features selected short films from around the world, inviting audiences to discover new narrative styles, themes and visual languages. Screenings take place outdoors on the Remise forecourt in fine weather, and in the Bludenz Town Hall in inclement weather.
In the ‘International Short Film’ category, the programme includes, amongst others, the productions *A Stable for Horses* (Australia, directed by Davie Paterson), *Last Night Stand* (Canada, directed by Pierre-Luc Gosselin and Béatrice Blais) and *Dandelion* (USA, directed by Fiona Obertinca). The films tackle a variety of social and personal themes and reflect the wide range of international short films. In addition, the festival offers a varied programme across the different categories throughout the week.
Young film enthusiasts can look forward to a dedicated children’s programme. For those seeking a thrill, the popular horror programme has been extended to two evenings for the first time this year.
